Wood Products International (NZ) Limited warrants Mahogany decking against rot and / or decay when used in residential building projects for a period of 15 years.
This warranty is subject to the following conditions:
In ground ‘Graveyard Tests’ of Heartwood carried out by SCION (NZ Forest Research Institute) gave a result of an average life of 10.2 years.
SCION reached the logical conclusion that the above ground Durability Classification would be Class 2, giving a probable life of 15 to 45 years.
Kwila in ground average life as tested by The Malaysian Forest Research Institute was 5.7 years. The Australian Standard above ground classification for Kwila is Class 1, 40 years plus.
As a small amount of Sapwood can be present in our decking, all the product is H3.2 CCA treated to ensure any Sapwood present is durable. The Heartwood does not take up the treatment, & the Sapwood penetration tests show full H3.2 levels.
WPI Mahogany is Plantation grown in Fiji from a strictly controlled sustainably harvested forest resource.
WPI supply Mahogany to the Exterior Joinery & Door market in the USA where a long life in harsh conditions is required. The specie is fully accepted in this market for this purpose.
The Fiji plantation resource is the same Mahogany (Swietenia Macrophylla) which occurs naturally in Central America and has been used worldwide over many centuries as a highest quality durable & stable Marine and Exterior timber, and also as a highly decorative, easy machining furniture wood.
We offer the same durable timber in standard and large dimension sizes as a matching above ground structural wood to complement the decking or for use in stand alone use situations.
